Time to get real: If we want to continue to address the climate crisis in earnest, we need to elect candidates who believe climate change is real and pledge to do something about it.

That’s why Team Sunski is continuing our commitment to the environment through our latest election season activism campaign with Protect Our Winters Action Fund (POW AF).

Sunski is donating $5 to POW AF for every pair of sunglasses sold between now and Election Day. Our goal is to generate $25,000 in support of POW’s efforts to get outdoor enthusiasts to the ballot box and elect climate champions in five crucial Senate and House races.

To get us amped to vote for the environment on Election Day, let’s pretend that American politics is a Netflix show and we need a recap of Season 1 and 2 before we vote on Season 3.

Season 1 | Donald Trump wins the 2016 Election and takes office on January 21, 2017. On that same day, all mention of the words "Climate Change" are removed from the White House website. Later that year, the United States leaves the Paris Climate Accord. In 2018, the Trump administration starts reducing national monuments by millions of acres in favor of fossil fuel mining projects.

Season 2 | The environmental movement faces a reckoning after Season 1. In the lead up to the 2020 Election, climate features prominently in the Democratic primary for the first time ever. Joe Biden wins the nomination, pledges to be a climate president and wins the Election. America rejoins the Paris Climate Accord. In 2022, the Biden Administration passes the Inflation Reduction Act which includes the largest investment in fossil fuel reduction in history.

Season 3 | Choose your own...adventure?

The Republican Party is offering a repeat of Season 1. The Democrats are offering to pick up where season 2 left off.

We think the choice is pretty clear.

The Protect Our Winters Action Fund (POW AF) works to make action on climate change a top policy priority for the outdoor sports community.

POW AF gets it — voting can be hard. It’s hard to tell who on the ballot shares the same values as we do. As citizens of the Outdoor State™, we’re all on the same team with the same goal in mind: protect our outdoor spaces from the effects of climate change and those who choose to ignore it. When our passion turns into action, we can bring real political change. And that’s where POW AF comes in.

POW AF believes anyone can be a climate advocate. Truth: Climate change threatens the future of the snow sports industry and the communities that depend on winter to power mountain economies. It threatens outdoor enthusiasts who recreate in our mountains, rivers, forests and public lands in every season. Which is to say, climate change affects us everywhere we go. While the impacts of climate change stretch far beyond the recreation economy, these impacts deeply resonate with those of us who love the outdoors.

By illustrating the unmistakable relationship between climate and the outdoors – the very element that brings us all together – the POW Action Fund turns the outdoor community’s shared love of wild places into the political will needed to drive positive action on climate change.
